FormatWorks Standard
FormatWorks Standard is a modular SolidWorks' add-in for import and export wide variety of CAD data formats to SolidWorks. Support of all native CAD data formats (like CATIA V5 and V4, Pro/E, Unigraphics, SolidWorks, Inventor and others), as well as neutral (STEP, IGES), and kernel formats (Parasolid, ACIS) are available as options and can be configured separately. The automatic repair includes identification and repair of over 70 typical geometry and topology errors on reading stage. The automatic repairs are controlled and always performed within the original model tolerance, which prevents any model deformation.
Model DiagnosisError classification and specialized manual repair tools provide easy to use work flow to solve most complex CAD repair tasks difficult or impossible to conduct in SolidWorks. You have access to extensive diagnostic capabilities that identify and classify errors which prevent SolidWorks from forming valid solids in SolidWorks. Each problem entity is separated and transferred including the neighbours to a separate SolidWorks document. You operate only on a small model part, which greatly simplifies the most complex repairs. The model is automatically updated with the modified parts.
Manual Repair ToolsFormatWorks offers automatic repair & healing eliminating possible incompatibilities preventing SolidWorks to form valid solids. Combined with the manual repair tools, it offers the best solution for SolidWorks users to quickly and easily get valid models. It resolves frustrating problems such as: surfaces that won’t knit together, model errors, deformation, and unusable models when using standard SolidWorks import tools.
FormatWorks Standard provides an ideal solution for single user requiring data translation from CATIA and other formats to SolidWorks. All FormatWorks products are upgradable. You can start with FormatWorks Standard FormatWorks Professional followed by an upgrade to FormatWorks Server. The CAD data translators supporting different import/export formats are fully interchangeable between all FormatWorks products.
FormatWorks Professional
FormatWorks Professional is the most complete translation package for SolidWorks users. It supports the same range of translators as FormatWorks Standard and extends its functionality with two important features - "Model Preview, Selective Translation" and "Batch Mode" - which were specially designed for smooth import of large 3D Models and complex assemblies into SolidWorks.
Model Preview, Selective Translation
The powerful preview capability allows visualisation of parts or assemblies stored in any CAD format prior to translation into SolidWorks. It has all functions of a graphical viewer allowing to zoom, rotate and pan the model and also features a project tree showing the model structure. Using the model preview, user can select entities he wants to have translated into SolidWorks by defining model entity name, colour, groups or picking entity directly on the 3D model. User can choose any combination of assemblies and parts, translate them into SolidWorks and leave the rest behind. This provides huge savings of time and computer resources (memory) and gives manageable data in SolidWorks.
Large and multiple data sets can be automatically translated using batch translation. Batch translation operates without any user interaction. The process is fully controlled and will automatically recover in case of unexpected error or SolidWorks crash. The results are stored in SolidWorks format on selected disc volume together with log file. The most important functions:
- Time-out control in case a file can not be opened
- Automatic SolidWorks recovery in case of abnormal termination
- Automatic application restart after abnormal termination

You can start using FormatWorks Ultimate immediately. Download and install it on your computed next to SolidWorks 2008 license (FormatWorks Ultimate is not supported with SolidWorks 2007 and earlier versions).
FormatWorks Ultimate is directly operational (no registration required) in a demo mode allowing you to translate 5 CAD data files from any format to SolidWorks. You can try your translations during 7 days on files < 10 Mb.
FormatWorks Ultimate download package includes step-by-step installation instructions which navigates you through whole installation procedure. After installation you get connection with Capvidia´s secured data translation server. You can use FormatWorks Ultimate to read 3D CAD formats not supported in SolidWorks (e.g. CATIA native data) and benefit from automatic repair & healing when you are confronted with problems in getting IGES or STEP files into SolidWorks.
FormatWorks Ultimate will make sure that imported files are translated correctly to form valid solids in SolidWorks. You can
translate single file or multiple data sets (batch mode). When translating single files you have option to preview the data
allowing selection of entities you are interested in and want to get in SolidWorks.
Multiple data sets are translated in batch mode without user interaction. The translation process can be monitored online.
Files can be given priorities to be translated first. The higher the priority, the faster the results will be available. Batch
translation is fully automatic and runs without user interaction. In case of SolidWorks crash the process will be restored and
problematic data entity annotated in a log file.
The translation process does not tie up your SolidWorks license or your CPU resources. You can run your normal SolidWorks jobs
while translating large native CATIA data sets.
